Hōnen's "Senchaku Shinshu"

Hōnen’s “Senchaku Shinshu,” often called the "Exclusive Shin Buddhism," emphasizes that reliance solely on the recitation of the Nembutsu (namely, saying “Namu Amida Butsu”) is the most effective way to attain enlightenment and rebirth in the Pure Land. Hōnen taught that other practices or rituals are unnecessary, focusing faith and devotion exclusively on Amida Buddha’s vow to save all beings. This approach simplifies spiritual practice by encouraging sincere reliance on Amida’s compassion, making it accessible to all people regardless of social standing or religious knowledge.
