Gypsy Moth
The Gypsy Moth is an invasive pest native to Europe and Asia that can cause significant damage to forests and hardwood trees in North America. The larvae (caterpillars) feed voraciously on tree leaves, especially oaks, weakening and sometimes killing trees if outbreaks become severe. Adult moths are brown and do not feed; they primarily reproduce. Gypsy Moth infestations can lead to defoliation, reduce tree growth, and disrupt ecosystems. Management involves monitoring populations, removing egg masses, and applying biological or chemical controls to prevent widespread damage.
