Gustatory perception

Gustatory perception is the sense of taste, which allows us to identify flavors in food and drinks. It involves taste buds on the tongue that detect five basic tastes: sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and umami (savory). When you eat, molecules from the food interact with these taste buds, sending signals to your brain, which interprets the sensations as specific tastes. This process helps us enjoy food, recognize spoiled items, and select nutritious options, playing a vital role in digestion and overall health.
