Guna and Vriddhi

Guna and Vriddhi are Sanskrit terms used in Ayurveda and yoga to describe qualities of matter and energy. Guna refers to the inherent qualities or attributes of a substance, such as stability, flexibility, or heaviness, which influence its behavior and effects. Vriddhi means growth or increase, indicating how these qualities can intensify or expand. For example, a substance with a Guna of heaviness might become heavier over time (Vriddhi). Together, these concepts help explain how qualities of foods, medicines, or energies interact and change within the body and mind.
