Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative

The Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative (GoMRI) is a large-scale collaborative effort established in 2010 to study the environmental and public health impacts of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Funded by BP, it supports scientific research to understand oil spills, their effects on marine life, ecosystems, and communities, and to develop better response and prevention strategies. The initiative promotes open data sharing, interdisciplinary studies, and innovative solutions to enhance the resilience of the Gulf of Mexico environment, aiming to improve response efforts to future offshore oil incidents and protect the region's ecological and economic well-being.
