Gulab Singh

Gulab Singh was a 19th-century military leader and ruler from the Dogra community, born in 1792 in what is now Jammu, India. He became the first Maharaja of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, establishing a significant kingdom that included parts of northern India and Pakistan. Known for his strategic skills and political acumen, Gulab Singh expanded his territory through diplomacy and military action. His reign laid the foundation for the region's later governance under British suzerainty, shaping the historical and cultural landscape of Jammu and Kashmir.
