Guillaume Dupuytren
Guillaume Dupuytren was a 19th-century French surgeon known for describing a condition called Dupuytren's contracture. This condition involves the thickening of tissue in the palm of the hand, causing the fingers—often the ring and little fingers—to bend inward and become difficult to straighten. It results from abnormal scar-like tissue forming under the skin. Dupuytren's work helped to identify and understand this disease, leading to surgical treatments that release the contracture, improving hand function. His contributions significantly advanced hand surgery and the understanding of fibrous tissue disorders.
