Guidelines for the In Vitro Fertilization
Guidelines for in vitro fertilization (IVF) involve a series of medically supervised steps to help individuals or couples conceive. These include ovarian stimulation with medications to produce multiple eggs, monitoring egg development through ultrasounds and blood tests, retrieving eggs from the ovaries, and fertilizing them with sperm in a laboratory. The resulting embryo(s) are cultured for a few days before one or more are transferred into the uterus. Additional support such as hormone therapy may be provided to improve implantation. Throughout, healthcare providers ensure procedures are safe, effective, and tailored to each patient’s needs.
