Guidelines for Aortic Aneurysm Screening
Aortic aneurysm screening involves checking for a weakening and bulging of the large blood vessel in your chest or abdomen before symptoms appear. It is recommended mainly for certain groups, such as men aged 65–75 who have ever smoked, because they are at higher risk. A simple ultrasound scan is used to detect an aneurysm early, which allows for monitoring or treatment to prevent life-threatening rupture. The goal is to identify aneurysms early in people at risk, so they can receive appropriate care and avoid serious complications.
