Group Areas Act

The Group Areas Act was a law implemented in South Africa during apartheid to racially segregate urban areas. It assigned specific regions for different racial groups—such as Black Africans, whites, and others—effectively controlling where people could live, work, and own property. This law aimed to enforce racial separation and restrict non-white populations from residing in or accessing certain neighborhoods, leading to forced removals and displacement of many communities. Its goal was to uphold racial hierarchy and privilege for white South Africans, perpetuating inequality and social division.
