Group 1 elements

Group 1 elements, also called alkali metals, include lithium, sodium, potassium, rubidium, cesium, and francium. These metals are highly reactive, especially with water, producing hydrogen gas and alkaline solutions. They are soft (can be cut easily) and have low melting points compared to most metals. Found mostly in minerals or seawater, they are important in various applications like batteries, glass production, and chemical manufacturing. Their reactivity increases down the group, meaning francium is extremely reactive, although it's rare and radioactive. These elements are vital in industry but must be handled carefully due to their reactive nature.
