Ground Rent Reform

Ground rent reform involves changing how landlords charge leaseholders (property owners with long-term leases) for the land their properties sit on. Historically, leaseholders pay ground rent periodically, but these charges can increase dramatically or be unfair. Reform aims to make ground rents fairer, prevent unjustified increases, and improve transparency. This can include capping rises, reducing or abolishing ground rents altogether, or simplifying the process. The goal is to protect leaseholders from unexpectedly high costs and ensure the system is fair and manageable over the long term.
