Ground Control Approach (GCA)
Ground Control Approach (GCA) is a precision instrument approach system used by radar operators on the ground to guide aircraft safely to a runway, especially in poor visibility conditions. Ground controllers track the aircraft’s position and provide real-time verbal instructions via radio to help pilots align with the runway and maintain correct altitude and speed. This process enhances safety during landing by compensating for limited visibility, ensuring the aircraft stays on a precise approach path until it can safely land. GCA is often used in challenging weather or when other landing aids are unavailable.
