Gross Motor Function Classification System
The Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) is a tool used by healthcare professionals to categorize the mobility skills of children with cerebral palsy. It classifies children into five levels based on how they move and perform everyday activities, considering their motor abilities and the assistance or aids they might need. Level I indicates the highest ability with minimal limitations, while Level V reflects the most severe limitations in movement. GMFCS helps in planning treatment, setting goals, and understanding a child's motor development over time.
