GroES
GroES is a small protein that functions as a "lid" for the bacterial chaperonin complex called GroEL. Its role is to assist in the proper folding of other proteins by creating a safe, enclosed environment where proteins can fold correctly. When a protein enters the GroEL chamber, GroES binds on top, sealing it off. This environment helps the protein attain its proper shape without interference. Once folding is complete, GroES releases, allowing the now correctly folded protein to exit. Overall, GroES is essential for maintaining proper protein structure and cell function.
