Grito de Jayuya
The Grito de Jayuya was a Puerto Rican uprising on October 30, 1950, led by nationalist activists protesting U.S. control and seeking independence. They temporarily took control of the town of Jayuya, raising a Puerto Rican flag and fighting against police and U.S. forces. The revolt was part of a broader movement for Puerto Rican sovereignty and rights. The U.S. military quickly suppressed the rebellion, resulting in casualties and arrests. The event highlighted tensions over Puerto Rico’s political status and remains a symbol of resistance in Puerto Rican history.
