Griffiths (The Griffiths experiment)
Griffiths' experiment demonstrated how bacteria can transfer genetic material through a process called transformation. He used two strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria: one harmless and one deadly. When he killed the harmful bacteria and mixed them with the harmless ones, some harmless bacteria absorbed the genetic material from the dead bacteria, gaining the ability to become deadly. This showed that genetic information can be transferred between bacteria, which is a fundamental mechanism of genetic change and evolution in microorganisms.
