Greenland Ice Cap

The Greenland Ice Cap is a vast, thick mass of ice covering roughly 1.7 million square kilometers in Greenland. It contains about 8% of the world’s freshwater and acts as a giant storage of frozen water. The ice sheet extends up to 3 kilometers deep in some areas. It is sensitive to climate change; rising temperatures cause melting and ice loss, which contributes to global sea level rise. The ice cap also influences regional weather patterns and acts as a climate indicator, providing valuable data on how our planet is responding to environmental changes.
