Greenham Common
Greenham Common is a large open area in Berkshire, England, historically used as a Royal Air Force base and later as a strategic missile site during the Cold War. In the 1980s, it became the site of significant anti-nuclear protests, as activists opposed the presence of cruise missiles intended for NATO defense. After the missile deployments ended, the site was decommissioned, and the area was transformed into a public nature reserve and park. Today, Greenham Common is known for its history of activism and is enjoyed for its natural beauty, walking trails, and memorials reflecting its Cold War past.
