Green Zone (Iraq)

The Green Zone in Iraq is a secure area in Baghdad that housed the headquarters of the U.S. and coalition forces during the 2003-2011 occupation and beyond. It features government buildings, diplomatic missions, and military facilities, and was heavily fortified to protect against attacks. Its name derives from the green fencing that demarcated its boundaries.
