Greek Junta (1967-1974)

The Greek Junta (1967-1974) was a period when Greece was governed by a military dictatorship. A group of military leaders took power through a coup, shutting down the democratic government and suppressing political freedoms. They justified their rule as necessary to restore order, but in practice, they limited rights, arrested opponents, and controlled the media. The regime faced opposition both domestically and internationally. It ended in 1974 when the military regime collapsed, leading to the restoration of democracy and civilian rule in Greece.
