Greater Assam

Greater Assam refers to a historical and geographical region that extends beyond the present-day state of Assam, encompassing parts of northeastern India and neighboring areas like parts of present-day Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya, and even parts of Bangladesh and Myanmar. It was more expansive during British rule and in early political discussions, covering territories with cultural, linguistic, and historical ties to Assam. Today, the term is less commonly used officially but often signifies the broader cultural and historical identity associated with Assam’s diverse ethnic groups and regional influence across northeastern India.
