Great Plains (military campaign)

The Great Plains campaign was a series of military operations conducted by the U.S. Army in the late 1800s to subdue Native American tribes, particularly the Sioux and Cheyenne, who resisted forced relocation to reservations. These campaigns targeted tribes that refused to surrender their lands and way of life, employing tactics such as cavalry attacks, fortifications, and chasing after fleeing groups. The goal was to assert U.S. control over the Great Plains, ultimately ending Native American resistance, opening land for settlement, and enforcing federal policies of removal and assimilation.
