Great Meteoric Showers
Great Meteoric Showers occur when Earth passes through trails of debris left by comets or asteroids. As these small particles (meteoroids) enter Earth’s atmosphere at high speeds, they burn up, creating bright streaks called meteors. During such showers, many meteors appear in the sky in a relatively short time, often originating from a specific point called the radiant. These events happen periodically, associated with the orbits of comets, and provide spectacular displays of shooting stars for observers worldwide. The most famous showers include the Perseids and Geminids, occurring annually at predictable times.
