Great Maratha War
The Great Maratha War (also called the Third Anglo-Maratha War, 1817-1818) was a conflict between the British East India Company and the Maratha Empire in India. The Marathas, a powerful confederation of states, resisted British expansion. Tensions escalated due to disputes over territory and influence, leading to a series of battles. The war ended with the British decisively defeating the Marathas, resulting in the annexation of much of their territory into British India. This war marked the end of Maratha sovereignty and significantly expanded British control over India during the 19th century.
