Great Famine (1921-1922)
The Great Famine of 1921-1922 was a severe food shortage in parts of Russia caused by a combination of the Russian Civil War, economic collapse, drought, and disrupted agriculture. War and political upheaval destroyed farms and transportation, making it difficult to produce and distribute food. Many people faced starvation, with widespread suffering and death. The famine highlighted the profound hardships during this turbulent period and prompted government efforts to improve food production and improve peoples’ living conditions in subsequent years.
