Great African Rift

The Great African Rift is a major geological feature where the African continent is slowly splitting apart. It consists of two large, elongated valleys known as rifts, formed by the Earth's tectonic plates pulling away from each other. This process creates volcanic activity, earthquakes, and the formation of new landforms over millions of years. The Rift is part of the larger East African Rift System, which extends from the Red Sea down through eastern Africa. It offers insights into the Earth's geological processes and has created diverse landscapes and habitats, supporting rich ecosystems and human populations.
