Granzymes
Granzymes are specialized enzymes produced by certain immune cells, mainly cytotoxic T cells and natural killer (NK) cells, which help protect the body from infected or cancerous cells. When these immune cells recognize a harmful cell, they release granzymes that enter the target cell and trigger self-destruction, effectively killing it from within. This process is essential for immune defense, ensuring infected or abnormal cells are removed efficiently. Granzymes work alongside other immune molecules to maintain health by preventing the spread of infections and controlling cancer development.
