Granular synthesis
Granular synthesis is a sound design technique that creates or modify audio by dividing it into tiny segments called "grains," which typically last a few milliseconds. These grains can be played back, layered, shifted in pitch, or arranged in various ways to produce complex textures or new sounds. By manipulating thousands of small grains, composers and sound designers can craft lush, evolving soundscapes, simulate natural sounds, or generate entirely synthetic ones. Essentially, granular synthesis acts like a highly detailed puzzle, assembling and transforming small pieces of sound to create rich and innovative auditory experiences.
