Grand Vizierate

The Grand Vizierate was the position of the chief minister in the Ottoman Empire, equivalent to a prime minister. The Grand Vizier was the highest-ranking official after the Sultan, responsible for supervising the government, executing laws, and managing the empire’s administration. They led the imperial council and made key decisions on behalf of the Sultan, often commanding the military and overseeing justice and finance. The role was central to the governance of the Ottoman state, acting as the Sultan’s chief advisor and executive authority, especially when the Sultan was absent or unable to rule directly.
