Grand Duchy of Moscow
The Grand Duchy of Moscow was a medieval Russian state centered around Moscow that emerged in the 13th century. Over time, it expanded its territory, consolidated power, and gained influence as the dominant principality among Russian states. By the 15th century, it became the core of what would later form the centralized Russian nation, gradually replacing other regional powers and asserting independence from the Mongol Tatars who had previously dominated the region. The Grand Duchy laid the groundwork for the unification of Russia and the eventual rise of the Russian Tsardom.
