Gramicidin

Gramicidin is a naturally occurring antibiotic protein that forms tiny channels in the membranes of bacteria and other cells. By doing so, it allows the uncontrolled flow of ions like sodium and potassium across the cell membrane. This disruption in ion balance damages or kills the microorganisms by interfering with their normal functions. Due to its ability to target bacteria specifically, gramicidin is used in some medical and laboratory applications. However, because it can also affect human cells, it is carefully administered and primarily utilized in specialized research rather than widespread clinical use.
