Gram-positive bacteria

Gram-positive bacteria are a group of bacteria characterized by a thick, sturdy cell wall made mainly of a substance called peptidoglycan. When subjected to a special staining process called Gram staining, they appear purple under a microscope. This thick wall helps protect the bacteria and makes them more resistant to certain antibiotics. Many common bacteria that can cause infections, such as Staphylococcus and Streptococcus, are Gram-positive. Understanding this feature helps doctors choose effective treatments and understand how these bacteria behave.
