Gracchus Brothers

The Gracchus Brothers, Tiberius and Gaius Gracchus, were Roman politicians in the 2nd century BCE known for advocating reforms to help Rome’s poor. Tiberius proposed land redistribution for displaced farmers, aiming to reduce inequality and strengthen Rome’s economy. Gaius continued these efforts, expanding social programs and addressing corruption. Their reforms challenged the powerful Roman elite, leading to political conflicts. Their attempts to change the system made them both popular among the lower classes and enemies of the ruling class, and they ultimately faced violence and death. They are remembered as early advocates for justice and social reform in Roman history.
