GPS/INS Integration
GPS/INS integration combines satellite-based GPS signals with an Inertial Navigation System (INS) to improve location accuracy and reliability. GPS provides precise positioning outdoors but can be blocked or lose signals indoors or in tunnels. INS uses motion sensors to track movement from a known position, but it drifts over time. By integrating both systems, the strengths of each compensate for the other's limitations: GPS corrects INS drift when signals are available, while INS maintains navigation when GPS signals are weak or unavailable. This synergy results in more continuous, accurate tracking suitable for various applications like navigation, defense, and autonomous vehicles.
