GPI (Genuine Progress Indicator)

The Genuine Progress Indicator (GPI) is a way to measure a country's overall well-being and economic health beyond just GDP. While GDP counts all economic activity, it doesn’t consider whether that activity improves quality of life, harms the environment, or affects social equity. GPI adjusts economic data by including factors like income distribution, natural resource depletion, pollution, and volunteer work. This provides a more comprehensive view of true progress, emphasizing sustainability and social well-being over mere economic growth. Essentially, GPI aims to show whether society is genuinely improving in ways that matter for people’s quality of life.
