Governing Council

The Governing Council is the main decision-making body of the European Central Bank (ECB). It is responsible for setting monetary policy within the Eurozone, such as interest rates and inflation control. The council consists of the ECB's six main executives and the governors of the national central banks of the 20 Euro countries. Together, they meet regularly to discuss and decide how to maintain price stability and support economic growth across the member countries. The Governing Council ensures that monetary policy is coordinated and effectively implemented throughout the Eurozone.
