Gorilla gorilla
Gorilla gorilla, commonly known as the western gorilla, is a large primate native to the forests of central Africa. They are the largest living primates, characterized by a robust build, broad chest, and a prominent brow ridge. Western gorillas are primarily herbivorous, feeding on leaves, stems, and fruits. They live in social groups called troops, led by a dominant male known as a silverback. These gorillas are intelligent, communicate through various vocalizations and gestures, and are generally gentle but can be powerful if threatened. They are endangered due to habitat loss, poaching, and disease, making conservation efforts critical.
