Gorbachev's proposals
Mikhail Gorbachev proposed reforms to improve the Soviet Union’s economy and political system by opening up to more transparency and reducing Cold War tensions. His policies, glasnost (openness) and perestroika (restructuring), aimed to allow more freedom of speech, encourage economic reforms, and foster better relations with other countries. He also proposed reducing nuclear weapons and promoting peaceful coexistence with the West. These ideas sought to modernize the Soviet Union and improve its interactions globally, ultimately leading to significant political and social changes during the late 1980s.
