Google Gears

Google Gears was a browser extension that enabled web applications to work offline by allowing them to store data locally on your computer. This meant you could use certain web features without an internet connection and sync your work later. It provided tools like a local database and file system API, helping web apps perform faster and more reliably. Google Gears was particularly useful before modern web standards and browser features matured to support offline capabilities natively.
