Golden Liberty

Golden Liberty was a unique political system in 16th-17th century Poland-Lithuania that granted noble (szlachta) citizens extensive rights and influence. It emphasized equality among nobles, allowing them to participate directly in government, elect officials, and oppose royal decisions through mechanisms like the liberum veto. This system aimed to limit monarchical power and protect noble privileges, fostering a form of collective governance. While it promoted noble participation, it also sometimes led to political paralysis, as unanimity or opposition could halt reforms or decisions. Overall, Golden Liberty represented a decentralized, noble-centered approach to governance.
