Goa's liberation struggle

Goa’s liberation struggle was a movement to end Portuguese rule, which had lasted over 450 years. After India gained independence in 1947, Goa remained under Portuguese control, causing stagnation and hindering development. Activists and the Indian government pressed for integration, facing military and diplomatic resistance from Portugal. The struggle intensified through protests, diplomatic negotiations, and covert operations. Ultimately, in December 1961, India launched a military action called “Operation Vijay,” leading to the annexation of Goa, ending Portuguese rule and integrating Goa into India. The movement symbolized the Tamil of decolonization and national unity.
