GMD system

A GMD (Ground-based Midcourse Defense) system is part of a missile defense network designed to detect, track, and destroy incoming ballistic missiles during their middle phase of flight, when they are outside the Earth's atmosphere. It uses advanced radars and sensors to identify threats early, then launches interceptors from ground-based silos to collide with and neutralize the missile before it reaches its target. This layered approach enhances national security by providing a protective shield against potential missile attacks, primarily from state-sponsored threats.
