Glucocorticoid-Remediable Aldosteronism

Glucocorticoid-Remediable Aldosteronism (GRA) is a rare genetic condition that affects hormone production in the adrenal glands. In GRA, the body produces too much aldosterone, a hormone that increases blood pressure by causing the kidneys to retain salt and water. Uniquely, this excess can be controlled by glucocorticoids (a type of steroid hormone), which help to regulate aldosterone levels. This condition leads to high blood pressure (hypertension) and can be inherited. Treatment often involves medications or adrenal surgery to manage blood pressure and hormone levels effectively.
