Global Threat Reduction Initiative

The Global Threat Reduction Initiative (GTRI) is a U.S. government program aimed at reducing the risk of nuclear proliferation and preventing nuclear terrorism. It works internationally to secure, recover, and protect nuclear materials that could be targeted for misuse, such as highly enriched uranium and plutonium. By ensuring these materials are safely stored or transformed into less dangerous forms, GTRI helps prevent terrorists or rogue states from acquiring nuclear weapons. The initiative also supports efforts to improve nuclear security worldwide through technical assistance and collaboration with partner countries.
