Global Forecast System
The Global Forecast System (GFS) is a computerized weather prediction model developed by the U.S. National Weather Service. It uses vast amounts of data from satellites, weather stations, and balloons to simulate the Earth's atmosphere. By solving complex equations, the GFS predicts future weather conditions, such as temperature, wind, and precipitation, up to two weeks ahead. It helps meteorologists understand potential weather patterns globally, improving forecasts for communities, sectors like agriculture and aviation, and emergency planning. In essence, the GFS is like a highly advanced virtual weather "crystal ball" that provides detailed forecasts based on current atmospheric data.
