Glenohumeral Instability

Glenohumeral instability occurs when the shoulder joint, where the upper arm bone (humerus) meets the shoulder blade (scapula), is unable to stay firmly in place. This can happen due to looseness of the joint ligaments, a past injury, or repetitive stress, leading to the shoulder feeling loose, slipping out of position, or even dislocating. Symptoms include pain, a sense of giving way, or frequent feeling that the shoulder might pop out. Treatment ranges from physical therapy to strengthen the muscles around the joint, to surgical procedures if necessary, to restore stability and function.
