GLC (Greater London Council)
The Greater London Council (GLC) was a regional authority that governed Greater London from 1965 to 1986. It was responsible for services like transportation, housing, waste management, and planning across the city, providing a level of local government above individual boroughs. The GLC aimed to coordinate policies and improve infrastructure for the capital's diverse population. It was ultimately abolished in 1986 due to political disagreements and restructuring, with many of its functions transferred to individual boroughs or other agencies. Today, the London area is managed by the Greater London Authority, which includes the Mayor of London and the London Assembly.
