glanders

Glanders is a contagious bacterial disease that primarily affects horses, mules, and donkeys, but can also infect humans and other animals. It spreads through contact with infected animals, contaminated objects, or inhaling bacterial spores. Symptoms in animals include nasal discharge, ulcers, swelling of the lymph nodes, and difficulty breathing. In humans, it can cause fever, skin ulcers, and respiratory issues. Glanders is serious but treatable with antibiotics. Preventive measures include good hygiene, quarantine of new animals, and vaccination in certain regions. The disease is considered a zoonosis, meaning it can pass between animals and people.
