Glacier mummies

Glacier mummies are human remains preserved within glaciers or ice sheets, where extreme cold prevents decomposition. When a body becomes trapped in ice, the low temperatures inhibit bacterial activity and moisture loss, leading to excellent preservation of skin, hair, and even clothing. Over time, the ice encapsulates the body, creating a natural tomb. These mummies can provide valuable insights into past cultures, health, and environments, especially since the cold preserves details that usually decay. Examples include Ötzi the Iceman from the Alps and various ancient remains found in polar regions.
